Job summary
This role leads a newly established global Software Asset Management (SAM) function within an enterprise IT organization. The focus is to build and mature the SAM capability by developing strategies, governance frameworks, and managing software assets to improve compliance, reduce costs, and strengthen IT security. The position involves cross-functional collaboration and ownership of software lifecycle governance across business units.

Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end SAM function including strategy, governance, KPIs, and reporting to IT leadership. Build and develop a permanent SAM team, transitioning from the current contractor-based model. Manage operating models allocating responsibilities based on risk and complexity. Deliver project phases expanding vendor coverage and maturity. Ensure audit readiness with effective license positions and vendor compliance. Drive data quality and tooling to maintain software asset inventory accuracy. Partner with related teams to govern software lifecycle and enable cross-functional governance boards. Optimize license costs and risks, support renewals and negotiations, and reduce unauthorized software use. Represent SAM internally and externally to build credibility with business areas, procurement, vendors, and auditors.
Qualifications
Proven experience in software asset management and leading SAM functions or related technology governance roles. Strong leadership skills with experience in building and managing teams. Expertise in software licensing, compliance auditing, vendor management, and risk mitigation. Experience with IT asset management tools and data quality processes. Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of influencing senior leadership and cross-functional teams. Ability to develop strategies, governance frameworks, and drive organizational change.
